Job summary

Altia in Belgium seeks a Senior Back-end Software Engineer to join our international team. You will design, implement and maintain scalable back-end services using PHP or other languages, with a focus on robust APIs and data models.

You will work on an European regulatory project, collaborating across teams, applying Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD, and security best practices. Fluent English required; EQF level 7+ with extensive experience.

Qualifications

• EQF Level 7 or 6 with extensive experience in backend development.
• Strong English (B2) written and spoken.
• Proficiency in PHP or other backend languages; MVC frameworks and OOP.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and evolve backend software components.
• Design robust REST APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger, with secure storage and logging.
• Collaborate on architecture, data modelling and database choices (SQL/NoSQL).
• Contribute to DevOps practices: Git, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes.

The project

Join an international project focused on the development, maintenance and evolution of a software.

Requirements

• EQF Level 7 university degree and 15 years of experience; alternatively, EQF Level 6 and 17 years, or secondary education giving access to higher education and 22 years of experience.
• Minimum B2 English, spoken and written
• PHP or other back-end languages; MVC frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony or Spring Boot; object-oriented programming.
• Drupal 8 or later.
• MySQL, PostgreSQL or Oracle; data modelling and advanced SQL; knowledge of NoSQL document stores.
• Design, security and documentation of REST APIs using OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Security: input validation, error handling, secure storage, compliant logging, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and JWT.
• Git, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes and observability tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk or Elastic APM.
