Imec in Belgium invites a Master internship to explore reliability of advanced technologies and its impact at system level. You will build a reliability framework that propagates device-level data to system metrics, across layers, for representative workloads.
Duration is 6-9 months. Required educational background is Electrotechnics/Electrical Engineering. Reference code: 2026-INT-359. Imec allowance will be provided for students studying at a non-Belgian university.
Help us find out how new devices may fail and devise novel workarounds.
Advanced technologies bring their own reliability behaviour: ageing mechanisms, variability and transient faults that differ by technology and by operating point. Most of this knowledge stops at the device or the circuit. What a system designer needs is the other end of the chain: how much margin a system loses over its lifetime, how often a fault reaches an output, and which architectural or technological choice buys the most reliability per unit of cost.
The student will work on a reliability framework that takes device-level reliability data for advanced technologies, propagates it through circuits and blocks, and expresses it as system-level metrics for representative workloads. The work includes building and calibrating the models across the layers, identifying where the dominant losses arise, and exploring mitigations that combine technology choice and architecture, so that reliability becomes a quantity that can be traded against power, performance and area.
