Job summary

Imec invites Master or PhD interns to work on technology-aware design partitioning for heterogeneous systems in Belgium. The project focuses on a partitioning and exploration framework, cost models, and optimization across technology options, with evaluation on representative designs to separate technology mix contributions from tool contributions.

The internship lasts 6–9 months. Supervising scientist is Siva Satyendra Sahoo; reference code 2026-INT-356.

Qualifications

  • Master internship or PhD internship.
  • Duration: 6-9 months.
  • Required educational background: Electrotechnics/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science.
  • Supervising scientist: Siva Satyendra Sahoo (SivaSatyendra.Sahoo@imec.be).
  • Reference code: 2026-INT-356.
  • Imec allowance for non-Belgian university students.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a partitioning and exploration framework for heterogeneous systems: cost models describing each technology option and interfaces between them.
  • Develop a partitioning method that optimises power, performance, area and cost.
  • Evaluate designs that separate technology mix contributions from tool contributions.

Job description

/ Technology-aware design partitioning for heterogeneous systems

Technology-aware design partitioning for heterogeneous systems

Let us decide which part of a system belongs in which technology.

Electronic systems areincreasingly built from more than one technology: different process nodes, different device and memory technologies, fixed and reconfigurable fabrics, stacked or side by side in one package. Each option has its own cost, speed, energy and risk, and the boundaries between them have costs of their own.Design flows still treat the technology as a single given, and the choice ofwhere a design should be split, and what the split itself costs, is largelyleft to experience.

The student will work on apartitioning and exploration framework for heterogeneous systems: cost modelsthat describe each technology option and the interfaces between them, apartitioning method that optimises power, performance, area and cost together, and an evaluation on representative designs that separates what the technologymix contributes from what the tools contribute.

Type of internship: Master internship, PhD internship

Duration: 6-9 months
