Job summary

The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) in Brussels is seeking an Internal Accountant to cover maternity leave for eight months with extensions possible. You will handle accounting, financial operations, compliance and audits, and contribute to the transition to a new accounting software.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will reconcile accounts, post journal entries, prepare VAT returns and support year-end closure, collaborating across the finance team while maintaining confidentiality

Qualifications

• University degree or related qualification in accountancy/finance.
• At least 5 years of full-time professional experience in financial accounting.
• At least 2 years of experience working with a Belgium registered company.
• Full professional working knowledge of French and English.

Responsibilities

• Check data entry of accounting transactions in the custom-made accounting software and ensure transactions are in the project ledger.
• Post journal entries including payroll, accrued expenses, revenue and grant closures.
• Perform accounting reconciliations including monthly bank reconciliations.
• Support closure of the annual accounts and statutory audit.
• Prepare quarterly VAT (TVA) returns.
• Manage EED Peppol account and liaise with suppliers for billing discrepancies.
• Ensure records are accurate for local administration and audits.
• Support development of accounting processes and new software implementation.
