Legend Hire is looking for a hands-on yard operator to run the Marsden Park yard daily, ensuring on-time preparation, quality checks, and safe forklift operation. You will coordinate with desks, drivers, and workshops to keep the workflow aligned and efficient.
You will lead by example in safe handling, maintain Syrinx records, and be ready to jump in on jobs when needed. This is a full-time role based near Marsden Park with emphasis on reliability and safety.
Every hire business is judged on one thing: did the right gear turn up, on time, in good condition.
We hire equipment and temporary works — traffic management, shoring and propping — to civil and construction contractors across NSW. We are growing quickly, we are owner-led, and we are not a big slow corporate. There is nobody between a good idea and it happening.
This is a step up from a yard operator position. You are on the tools and in the yard every day, but you are also the one setting the standard, planning the run, and making sure nothing leaves the gate that should not.
Run the day to day operation of the Marsden Park yard — layout, flow, presentation, discipline
Plan the pick, prep and load so gear is ready before the truck arrives, not after
Own the final quality check. Nothing goes to a customer dirty, damaged or incomplete
Operate the forklift daily and lead by example on manual handling and safe work
Keep equipment locations and movements accurate in Syrinx. If the system is wrong, the yard is wrong
Coordinate with the hire desk, drivers, install crews and the workshop so everyone is working off the same plan
Report damage and defects fast, and chase them through to fixed
Set and hold the standard for the yard team — pre-starts, PPE, housekeeping, no shortcuts
Jump in a truck or on a job when the day demands it
The technical side is teachable. Character is not. We are looking for someone who is:
Humble — team over self, no ego, shares the credit and owns the mistake
Hungry — hard working, self-starting, does not need to be pushed
Smart — reads people and situations well, communicates clearly, uses good judgement
Coachable — takes feedback and acts on it. This one matters more than experience
Dependable, steady and consistent. You do what you said you would, every day
Current forklift licence (HRWL) — essential
Experience in equipment hire or rental is ideal. Experience with shoring is better again
Solid written and verbal communication. You will be reading dockets, writing reports and briefing people
Comfortable with technology — hire software, tablets, phones. You do not need to be an expert, you do need to be willing
You genuinely care about safety and expect the same from everyone around you
You live within about 30 minutes of Marsden Park
You are prepared to start early and stay back late when the work requires it
You would rather be told what to do than decide what needs doing
You have all the answers already
Base + super, depending on experience
Full time, permanent, with a business that is growing — this seat leads somewhere
Onboarding we take seriously and a documented playbook for your role
A weekly one-on-one with your manager, clear KPIs and honest feedback. You will always know where you stand
Owner-led business. Decisions get made in the room
Results Driven
We hire to these and we manage to these. If they do not sound like you, this will not be a good fit for either of us.
