Job summary

Hastings Deering (Australia) Ltd is seeking a Leading Hand for the Mackay Workshop Operations team. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with coordinating tradespeople and apprentices to deliver safe, high-quality outcomes in a permanent day shift.

You will supervise the team, allocate daily work, provide technical guidance, and support training and development while maintaining a positive, collaborative culture with stakeholders and customers during major repairs.

Qualifications

• Hold a relevant trade qualification in a mechanical trade such as Diesel Fitter, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Plant Mechanic.
• Demonstrate strong technical knowledge of heavy equipment.
• Bring proven leadership capability and supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support the workshop team with day-to-day leadership.
• Allocate tasks and monitor workflow to meet deadlines and targets.
• Provide hands-on troubleshooting and technical guidance.
• Uphold safety policies and maintain a safe work environment.
• Oversee quality of work and outcomes.
