Job summary

Gibson Freight Australia Pty Ltd in Melbourne (VIC) seeks an experienced Airfreight Manager to lead our Melbourne wholesale airfreight operations and support the continued growth of the business.

You will work closely with our in-house bonded warehouse and company-owned transport fleet, including dedicated loose airfreight vehicles and roller-bed trailers, providing an integrated solution from cargo arrival through to collection and delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience in international airfreight operations, preferably within wholesale forwarding.
• Previous experience leading or managing an operations team.
• Strong understanding of airline relationships, cargo handling and capacity management.
• Commercial awareness, including pricing, cost control and profitability.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• A proactive approach to operational performance, customer service and business development.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily airfreight import operations and lead the operations team.
• Develop team capability, performance and accountability.
• Maintain relationships with airlines, ground handlers and wholesale customers.
• Manage capacity, service KPIs, invoicing, costs and profitability.
• Identify opportunities to grow wholesale volumes and improve operational processes.
• Manage escalations, compliance requirements and service issues.
• Coordinate weekend coverage to ensure timely collections and minimise storage costs.
• Contribute to national airfreight initiatives, major projects and business planning.

Gibson Freight is an Australian owned freight forwarding and customs brokerage business with almost 50 years of industry experience. Our wholesale airfreight division is a significant part of our business, with substantial freight volumes moving from the USA into Australia.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Airfreight Manager to oversee our Melbourne wholesale airfreight operations and support the continued growth of the business.

You will work closely with our in-house bonded warehouse and company-owned transport fleet, including dedicated loose airfreight vehicles and roller-bed trailers, providing an integrated solution from cargo arrival through to collection and delivery.

Working closely with our national teams, you will be responsible for maintaining service standards, developing the team, strengthening airline relationships and identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and grow wholesale volumes.
