Job summary

The Benevolent Society – South Hurstville NSW is seeking a committed Child & Family Practitioner for a 12-month, full-time role based on Bidjigal Country in Hurtsville. The role delivers home-based support to families and drives safe, thriving outcomes for children.

You’ll work intensively with families, conduct thoughtful assessments, develop family-led plans, and coordinate practical supports, while being part of a growing, values-driven team. Salary and benefits apply.

Qualifications

• Degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or a related human services field.
• Experience delivering intensive casework with vulnerable children and families, ideally within family preservation, child protection or community-based support programs.
• Sound understanding of trauma-informed practice, child safety and risk assessment, with the ability to identify and respond to child protection concerns.
• Strong communication and engagement skills, including culturally safe practice and effective collaboration with families and service partners.
• Practical requirements, including confidence with case documentation and systems, a current NSW Driver’s Licence and NSW Working With Children Check.

Responsibilities

• Provide home based intervention, including regular family visits and direct engagement.
• Assess family strengths, needs and risks, and develop clear family-led support plans.
• Deliver practical and evidence-informed interventions, including parenting support, advocacy and service coordination.
• Maintain accurate documentation and work collaboratively with families, colleagues and partner services.
