Job summary

Mission Australia is seeking a Tenancy Support Coordinator in Darwin to help individuals and families sustain tenancies and reduce homelessness risk. You will deliver person-centred, strengths-based case management, with on-site work and home visits to support clients in their own environments.

You will partner with housing providers, community services and support services, developing tailored plans to improve wellbeing, independence and housing outcomes for clients facing complex challenges.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Community Services with relevant experience or Diploma in Community Services with relevant experience.
  • Experience in housing, homelessness, tenancy support or related community services with case management.
  • Understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act and factors leading to homelessness.
  • Ability to build rapport and engage vulnerable clients across multiple barriers.
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills; ability to work collaboratively across services.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and maintain records.
  • Cultural competency with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; First Aid is desirable; full driver licence; police checks required.

Your Opportunity

As a Tenancy Support Coordinator within Tailored Support Coordination Services in Darwin, you will play a vital role in helping individuals and families sustain their tenancies and reduce their risk of homelessness. Working with people who may be facing complex challenges, you will provide person centred, strengths-based case management that empowers tenants to build the skills, confidence and supports needed to maintain safe and stable housing. This is an on-site position, involving a combination of office based work and regular home and community visits to support tenants in their own environments. You will work closely with tenants, housing providers, community organisations and support services to identify needs, develop tailored support plans, and create pathways that improve wellbeing, independence and long-term housing outcomes. With a caseload of individuals and families, you will build strong relationships, advocate for clients, and facilitate meaningful connections to services that help people thrive in their community.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to referrals and complete intake, assessment and case management processes for individuals and families requiring tenancy support.
  • Develop tailored support plans that build tenancy skills, address barriers, and promote long term housing stability.
  • Conduct regular home and community visits to monitor progress, identify tenancy risks and provide practical support.
  • Assist tenants to understand their rights, responsibilities and expectations under tenancy agreements.
  • Connect clients with appropriate internal and external services, supports and community resources to meet their individual goals.
  • Maintain accurate case files, complete reviews and prepare monthly reports on tenancy outcomes and client progress.
  • Work collaboratively with housing providers, community agencies and stakeholders to support tenancy sustainment and positive client outcomes.
Requirements for Success
  • Degree in Community Services with relevant experience, Diploma in Community Services with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and substantial industry experience.
  • Previous experience working in housing, homelessness, tenancy support or a related community services environment, and providing case management support to individuals and families with complex needs.
  • Strong understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act and the contributing factors that place people at risk of homelessness such as family violence, mental ill health, overcrowding, and substance use.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport, engage vulnerable clients and work effectively with people experiencing multiple barriers.
  • Excellent communication, relationship building and advocacy skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across services.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records and reporting requirements.
  • Cultural competency and experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their communities, systems, and protocols.
  • First Aid certificate is desired but not required.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions.
  • Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
