Job summary

Mission Australia is seeking a dedicated practitioner to provide intake, safety planning, and ongoing support for clients and families, promoting transition to independence and linkages with other services. This role requires NSW driver license and First Aid, with checks prior to commencement.

You will deliver group programs, maintain accurate documentation, and work within trauma-informed, recovery-oriented practice while safeguarding the wellbeing of clients and staff.

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant relevant work experience.
  • Experience with mental health challenges, suicidality, trauma and psychosocial support needs.
  • Experience supporting diverse backgrounds and disadvantaged communities.
  • Knowledge of local crisis intervention and community services; ability to connect clients to supports.
  • Experience with trauma-informed, recovery-oriented practice and lived experience valued.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and case management skills.
  • Current NSW Driver's License and First Aid certificate.

Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • Undertake initial intake and safety planning for clients and work with individuals and their families to create individualized case plans.
  • Provide ongoing support sessions with clients and review progression and safety as required.
  • Support and promote family, carers, friends and kin involvement in safety and support planning in collaboration with clients.
  • Liaise with other support services and organisations to coordinate the requirements of the case plan.
  • Deliver group programs which support the practical needs of the clients.
  • Assist clients in the process of transition out of the service into independence or other services.
  • Ensure documentation is completed and updated in line with Mission Australia protocols.
Requirements for Success
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant relevant work experience
  • Experience working with people experiencing mental health challenges, suicidality, trauma and psychosocial support needs
  • Demonstrated experience supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing disadvantage and social exclusion
  • Knowledge of local crisis intervention and community support services and the ability to connect people with the right supports
  • Experience working with a peer workforce, with a focus on trauma-informed, recovery-oriented practice and valuing lived experience
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and case management skills.
  • Computer literacy preferably using Windows.
  • Current NSW Driver's License
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
