We are looking for an experienced Technical Sales Manager – Meat to drive profitable sales growth across meat processors, butcher distributors and other targeted protein channels throughout Australia.
This role combines specialist knowledge of meat processing, food ingredients and manufacturing applications with strong commercial and business development capability.
You will manage and grow existing customer accounts, identify new business opportunities and work closely with customers and our R&D team to develop practical solutions that improve product quality, yield, consistency, efficiency and profitability.
The role will lead customer opportunities from initial technical discussions and product development through to plant trials, commercialisation, launch and ongoing account growth.
The role can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne.
Identify, develop and convert new business opportunities across meat processors, manufacturers, distributors and foodservice customers
Deliver agreed sales, margin, volume and new-business targets
Develop and execute strategic account plans for key customers
Build trusted relationships with technical, operational, procurement and senior commercial stakeholders
Apply specialist meat-processing and ingredient knowledge to recommend practical customer solutions
Partner with R&D to develop products and formulations aligned with customer and market needs
Plan and support customer plant trials, product demonstrations, production scale-ups and launches
Provide technical troubleshooting and process-optimisation support to customers
Prepare customer proposals, cost-in-use assessments, tender submissions and commercial presentations
Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and provide timely customer, opportunity and sales forecasts
Monitor relevant industry trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities within the Australian meat sector
Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure customer projects are delivered effectively and commercially
To be successful in this role, you will have:
At least 5–10 years’ relevant experience in the meat-processing industry, preferably across red meat, poultry, value-added meats, smallgoods or further processing.
Strong technical knowledge of coatings, seasonings, marinades, sauces, functional ingredients, cures, binders and meat-processing systems
Experience in a customer-facing technical sales, business development, NPD, R&D or technical service role
A proven ability to identify, develop and convert new business opportunities
Experience managing key accounts and building relationships with senior customer stakeholders
Strong commercial capability across sales planning, pipeline management, pricing, margins, forecasting and negotiation
Practical experience conducting plant trials, product demonstrations, process optimisation and technical troubleshooting
Knowledge of meat-processing operations such as forming, batter and breading, tumbling, marination, injection, cooking and yield optimisation
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate technical information into commercially relevant solutions
A current drivers licence and the ability to undertake regular travel to customer and manufacturing sites
A tertiary qualification in food science, meat science, food technology, business or a related discipline would be advantageous.
