Qualifications

• 10–15+ years' experience in electrical engineering
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Experience in consultancy environments and complex projects
• Strong experience across power systems and electrical engineering
• Exposure to renewable energy projects (solar, wind, BESS)
• Knowledge of HV/MV/LV systems and grid connections
• Experience with electrical design and EBOP
• Exposure to LV building services electrical design
• Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills
• Experience contributing to tenders, proposals or BD
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards

About the Opportunity

Our client is a growing electrical engineering consultancy based in Melbourne, working across major projects in renewable energy, power systems and commercial buildings.

With a strong pipeline of work and further growth ahead, they are looking for an experienced Technical Director – Electrical to join their leadership team and play a key role in shaping the technical direction and future growth of the business.

This is a senior, hands‑on leadership position suited to an experienced Electrical Engineer who enjoys staying close to the technical work while also developing people, working with clients and contributing to business growth.

The Role

As Technical Director – Electrical, you will provide senior technical leadership across the business and major projects, ensuring engineering solutions are safe, practical, compliant and delivered to a high standard.

You will be involved in:

• Providing senior technical direction across electrical engineering projects
• Reviewing and overseeing electrical designs and technical deliverables
• Providing guidance on complex engineering and design issues
• Supporting projects from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and delivery
• Working across renewable energy, power systems, infrastructure and commercial projects
• Supporting tenders, proposals and new business opportunities
• Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships
• Mentoring and developing engineers and future technical leaders
• Identifying technical risks and ensuring appropriate safety and quality standards
• Working closely with the leadership team on business strategy and growth
• Helping develop technical standards, processes and capabilities within the business

About You

You will be an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong technical background and the ability to operate confidently at both a technical and leadership level.

Ideally, you will have:

• 10–15+ years' experience in electrical engineering
• A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Experience within an engineering consultancy environment
• Strong experience across power systems and electrical engineering
• Experience with renewable energy projects, including solar, wind and/or BESS
• Knowledge of HV/MV/LV systems and grid connections
• Experience with electrical design and/or Electrical Balance of Plant (EBOP)
• Exposure to LV building services electrical design
• Experience leading, mentoring or developing engineering teams
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills
• Experience contributing to tenders, proposals or business development
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards and engineering requirements
• CPEng or eligibility to obtain CPEng is highly regarded
