Job summary

Brunel is seeking a team lead electrical engineer for a global energy client in Melbourne. You will act as the technical authority across a portfolio of independent power project assets, spanning development, engineering, delivery and operations.

Responsibilities include leading HV/MV/LV design, grid connection studies, protection, SCADA, BESS, solar PV, and wind interfaces; mentoring a small team; interfacing with contractors, lenders, and network providers.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• 12–15 years' experience in electrical engineering for large-scale infrastructure or power assets.
• Strong experience in renewable and/or thermal generation within an IPP, EPC, utility, or developer environment.
• Proven track record as a technical authority on complex power projects.
• Experience with grid connection processes and power system studies.
• Strong HV/MV/LV knowledge and familiarity with Australian Standards and network requirements.

• Provide expert input across concept design, grid connection strategy, and feasibility through FEED to commissioning.
• Deliver technical leadership across HV/MV/LV systems, protection & control, substations, SCADA, and BESS.
• Lead investigations into equipment failures and drive reliability/performance improvements on operating assets.
• Mentor and develop a small team of engineers and allocate workload.
• Interface with contractors, consultants, OEMs, network providers, and project stakeholders including lenders and independent engineers.

We're looking for a team lead electrical engineer to act as the technical authority across a portfolio of independent power project (IPP) assets spanning development, engineering, delivery, and ongoing operations.

What you'll do:

• Lead electrical engineering standards, technical assurance, and design sign-off across the IPP portfolio
• Provide expert input across concept design, grid connection strategy, and feasibility through to FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning
• Deliver technical leadership across HV/MV/LV systems, protection & control, substations, SCADA, thermal generation, BESS, solar PV, and wind interfaces
• Lead investigations into equipment failures and drive reliability/performance improvements on operating assets
• Mentor and develop a small team of engineers, allocating workload and supporting their growth
• Act as senior technical interface with contractors, consultants, OEMs, network providers, and project stakeholders including lenders and independent engineers

What you'll bring:

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering
• ~12-15 years' experience in electrical engineering for large-scale infrastructure, power generation, transmission, or renewable assets
• Strong experience in renewable and/or thermal generation within an IPP, EPC, utility, owner's engineer, or developer environment
• Proven track record as a technical authority on complex power projects
• Experience with grid connection processes and power system studies
• Strong HV/MV/LV knowledge and familiarity with Australian Standards and network requirements

Highly regarded:

• CPEng or equivalent
• Exposure to multiple generation technologies (solar, wind, BESS, thermal, hybrid)
• Experience with lender technical due diligence / independent engineer reviews
• Interaction with AEMO, NSPs, TNSPs, or DNSPs
