Job summary

Brophy Family & Youth Services in Victoria is seeking a Team Leader – Home Based Care to provide strong leadership to Foster and Kinship Care practitioners and support safe, stable, and nurturing care for children and young people.

You will guide the team through complex decisions, build trusted relationships with carers and stakeholders, contribute to quality practice and risk management, and promote culturally safe, child-centred, trauma-informed approaches.

About the Role

As our Team Leader – Home Based Care, you’ll provide strong, supportive leadership to our Foster and Kinship Care practitioners, helping them deliver safe, stable and nurturing care for children and young people.

You’ll guide your team through complex practice and decision‑making, offering clear advice, direction and encouragement. Your leadership will keep practice child‑centred, trauma‑informed and grounded in the best interests of every child and young person.

As part of the Home Based Care leadership team, you’ll contribute to quality practice, risk management and continuous improvement. You’ll build trusted relationships with carers, practitioners and stakeholders across the region, and provide calm, confident leadership when responding to complex situations or crises.

This is a role for someone who brings sound professional judgement, confidence in leading others and a genuine commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children, young people and their carers. You’ll bring a strengths‑based approach to your work, while championing culturally safe, child‑safe and reflective practice across the team.

Do your skills include:

• Demonstrated understanding of therapeutic care approaches for children, young people and their carers, with the ability to apply contemporary frameworks that promote safety, healing and positive developmental outcomes.
• Strong understanding of the child protection system, relevant legislation and case management practice, with the ability to adhere to policy, procedures and professional standards within a complex service environment.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to facilitate a collaborative team approach, mentor staff, manage budgets and support service objectives through effective guidance, planning and decision‑making.

Are your credentials:

• A relevant tertiary or postgraduate qualification appropriate to the requirements of the role, together with substantial relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of qualifications, experience, expertise and competence sufficient to perform the requirements of the position.
• A current Drivers Licence.
