Job summary

Natures Cargo in Ballarat is seeking a full-time Stock Controller to join our day shift operations from 7.00am to 3.00pm, Monday to Friday. The role involves stock counts, reconciliation, and ensuring accurate inventory across multiple sites in Victoria.

Occasional travel to Thomastown and Traralgon may be required. Ideal candidates will have at least 2 years’ stock control experience, familiarity with ERP systems (Pronto preferred), and a forklift licence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in stock control, ideally in cold storage environments.
• Experience with ERP systems (Pronto) and RF scanning technologies.
• Forklift licence and MS Office proficiency are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular stock counts and reconcile inventory with records.
• Maintain accurate inventory data including locations and quantities.
• Address out-of-stock and unshipped orders daily.
• Manage stock rotation, storage, damage, and expiry handling.
• Prepare stock reports and ensure compliance with food safety and WHS standards.
• Collaborate with purchasing, sales, and other sites to ensure smooth inventory flow.

Job description

Natures Cargo is an award-winning, family-owned and operated wholesale foodservice distributor with more than 40 years’ experience in the industry. With distribution centres in Ballarat, Thomastown and Traralgon, we supply over 7,500 frozen, refrigerated and dry goods to foodservice businesses across Metro and Regional Victoria.

About the role

We are seeking a full-time Stock Controller to join our day shift operations in Ballarat. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 3.00pm. Overtime may be required from time to time. There may also be occasional travel to our other sites in Thomastown and Traralgon to support our broader stock control teams.

Key responsibilities

Conduct regular stock counts, reconcile physical inventory with system records, and investigate and resolve discrepancies.

Maintain accurate inventory records, including product details, quantities, locations, stock levels, putaways, incoming stock and invoice checks.

Address out-of-stock picks, incomplete transfers and unshipped orders on a daily basis.

Manage stock rotation, storage conditions, damaged or out-of-date stock, and warehouse storage areas to support accurate, safe and efficient stock control.

Prepare regular reports on stock levels, discrepancies and inventory issues, and ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, food safety requirements and WHS standards.

Work closely with purchasing, sales, warehouse teams and employees based at our other locations to support smooth inventory flow and ensure stock is in the correct location.

Provide support and guidance to team members regarding stock-related procedures and policies.

Track and report on inventory KPIs, including stock turnover, shrinkage and expiry.

Identify and recommend improvements to inventory management processes, including best-practice stock control and technology efficiencies.

Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including HACCP.

Maintain clean and safe warehouse areas, including general cleaning, spill management, rubbish removal, and prompt reporting of hazards or issues.

Skills and Attributes

Right to work full-time in Australia.

Previous experience in a similar stock control role, ideally with at least 2 years’ experience and exposure to cold storage environments.

Experience using an ERP system is required, with Pronto experience highly regarded.

Familiarity with food safety requirements, including HACCP.

Physical capability to safely complete manual tasks, including loading and unloading goods, bending, lifting, and carrying up to 25kg.

Valid forklift licence essential.

Experience with RF scanners will be highly regarded.

A Heavy Rigid licence will be highly regarded.

Strong MS Office skills, especially Excel.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to correctly identify products and quantities.

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to read and interpret instructions, complete documentation clearly, and communicate effectively with team members.
