Job summary

At Meli, a generous not-for-profit organisation, we are seeking a Steps to Confident Parenting Coach in Geelong. This part-time fixed-term role focuses on building parental confidence and capability while ensuring children stay safe, healthy and connected to their families and communities.

You will work with parents who have cognitive or intellectual disabilities, tailoring coaching to individual needs and using accessible tools to support sustainable family functioning.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Community Services, Human Services or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated understanding of cognitive and/or intellectual impairment/disability or learning challenges and their impacts on keeping children safe, healthy, and well cared for.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to adapt communication methods with visual aids, role play and repetition.
• Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and to engage constructively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated skills in time management, organisation, reporting and setting priorities.

Job description

As a Steps to Confident Parenting Coach, you will build parental confidence and capability while helping children remain safe, healthy and connected to their families and communities.

The Steps to Confident Parenting Program supports parents with cognitive or intellectual disability, impairment or learning challenges whose children may be at risk of entering out-of-home care. Working alongside parents and their care teams, you will provide practical, tailored coaching that builds on each family’s strengths and responds to individual learning needs. Through clear communication, culturally safe practice and a strong focus on child wellbeing, you will help parents develop sustainable skills and create safer home environments. Your work will contribute directly to Meli’s purpose of supporting people and strengthening communities.

• Part time, fixed term position until 30 June 2027
• 0.8 FTE working 30.4 hours per week
• $80,186 (pro-rata) p/a + Super + SalaryPackaging

What We’re Looking For

We value individuals who bring dedication, empathy, and expertise to their roles. To succeed in this position, you will have:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Community Services, Human Services or a related discipline. (Please note: applicants must have completed all course requirements, or will do so before commencing this position or have completed their qualification within the last 24 months.)
• Demonstrated understanding of cognitive and/or intellectual impairment/disability or learning challenges, and their impacts on keeping children safe, healthy, and well cared for.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication methods to incorporate use of visual aids, role play, task list and repetition.
• Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and to engage constructively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated skills in time management, organisation, reporting and setting priorities.
