Job summary

Canva in Australia is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for its Developer Experience group. You will set technical direction for developer environments, build scalable platforms, and lead cross-team initiatives that empower thousands of engineers.

The role blends hands-on coding with strategic leadership across AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD and IaC tooling. You'll partner with engineering teams to define standards, mentor engineers, and own the on-call rotation for critical services, shaping the future

Qualifications

Solid programming experience in Python and Go; Java or TypeScript a plus.
Experience leading complex, cross-team platform initiatives end-to-end.
Experience supporting large engineering organisations (1,000+ engineers).
Strong AWS experience and Kubernetes workload depth.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines at scale (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Buildkite, or similar).
Experience with Bazel, Gradle, or similar monorepo build tools.
Observability implementations including monitoring and logging in production.
Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.

Responsibilities

Set technical direction for platform problems across multiple teams.
Drive initiatives from design doc through adoption across the organisation.
Define tools, standards, and practices that become the engineering standard at Canva.
Architect high-leverage infrastructure that reduces engineering friction.
Define and deliver self-service platforms and CLIs.
Set the observability standard for the platform.
