Job summary

Kardex AutoStore is seeking a motivated Solution Design Engineer to design intralogistics solutions around AutoStore. Based in Sydney or Melbourne, you’ll support opportunities from concept to handover.

In this customer-facing role, you’ll analyze operations, size systems, develop layouts, and collaborate with sales, software teams and partners to deliver technically and commercially viable solutions across APAC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial/Logistics/Mechatronics or related field.
• 5+ years in solution design, systems engineering, consulting or pre-sales in intralogistics.
• Proven experience designing automated warehouse or material-handling solutions.
• Strong grasp of material flow, warehouse processes, throughput and capacity.
• Entrepreneurial thinking with a self-driven, results-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

Job description

Kardex AutoStore is seeking a motivated self-starter to be in the role of Solution Design Engineer. This full-time position is to be based in either Sydney or Melbourne and shall report to the Regional Solution Design Manager APAC.

The Solution Design Engineer is responsible for developing standalone or integrated intralogistics automation solutions centred around AutoStore, supporting opportunities from initial customer engagement and concept development through to contract award and handover to implementation.

Working closely with Sales Managers, customers, suppliers and internal specialists, he/she will analyse customer operations and data, develop material-flow concepts, size and configure AutoStore systems.

This is a customer-facing engineering role requiring a combination of logistics consulting, data analysis, system design and commercial awareness. He/she should be comfortable developing concepts from incomplete information, evaluating alternative solutions and presenting the solutions directly to customers.

He/she coordinates the service providers and external partners which are relevant in the sales and implementation processes. In addition, the Solution Design Engineer develops and improves standard solutions to differentiate from the competition. The Solution Design Engineer is highly motivated to work in a startup environment and is open for a wide range of tasks at different locations.

Your tasks

Responsibilities

• Support the sales phase from acquisition until contract
• Conduct customer workshops and site visits to understand operational processes, logistics requirements, constraints and future growth requirements
• Analysis of customer data to evaluate performance, trends and future requirements and define the design criteria
• Develop standalone or integrated intralogistics concepts incorporating AutoStore and complementary automation technologies whenever applicable e.g. robotics, conveyors, packaging machines, AMR, etc
• Develop layouts, process flows, equipment specifications and solution descriptions for customer proposals
• Discuss with customer and work with internal software team to define high-level WMS/WCS/WES and AutoStore integration requirements
• Prepare and present solution, technical proposals and design rationale to customers and internal stakeholders
• Constant customer communication, maintaining a strong client relationship
• Coordinate with internal teams, AutoStore, equipment suppliers and external partners to develop technically and commercially viable solutions
• Contribute to the development of standard solutions, design methodologies, calculation tools and best practices across the APAC region
• Support projects in other locations in the APAC region if needed

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline
• 5+ years of experience in solution design, systems engineering, consulting or pre-sales within the intralogistics / warehouse automation industry
• Demonstrated experience designing automated warehouse or material-handling solutions
• Strong understanding of material flow, logistics, warehouse processes, throughput and capacity calculations
