Job summary

RDO Equipment is seeking a Workshop Service Technician in Melbourne to service and repair Vermeer equipment in our busy branch workshop. You will diagnose faults, perform scheduled maintenance, and ensure high-quality workmanship that keeps customers productive.

You will work hands-on with hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems, reading manuals and schematics, while maintaining a strong safety culture and accurate service records. A trade qualification is preferred."

Qualifications

• Experience as heavy equipment, diesel, mechanical, or plant technician.
• Practical hydraulics and mechanical systems repair skills.
• Able to read service manuals and technical drawings.
• Safety-focused with quality workmanship.
• Team player with ownership of tasks.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical faults on Vermeer machinery such as trenchers, HDDs, chippers, grinders, and vacuum excavators.
• Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and major repairs per manufacturer standards.
• Use diagnostic software, service manuals, and schematics to fault-find and resolve issues.
• Repair and rebuild components including pumps, motors, hoses, drivetrains, and wear parts.
• Complete service documentation and inspections to support quality workmanship and safe operation.

What You’ll Be Doing

AsaWorkshop Service Technician, you’ll be hands‑on in our branchworkshop, maintaining and repairing Vermeer equipment to keep ourcustomers productive. Your day‑to‑day will include:

• Diagnosingand repairing hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical faultson Vermeermachinery such as trenchers, horizontal directional drills, chippers,grinders, and vacuum excavators
• Performingscheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and major repairsinaccordance with manufacturer standards
• Usingdiagnostic software, service manuals, and schematicsto accuratelyfault‑find and resolve complex issues
• Repairingand rebuilding components, including pumps, motors, hoses, drivetrains,and wear parts
• Completingservice documentation and inspectionsto support quality workmanshipand safe operation

You’ll also:

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who:

• Hasexperience as aheavy equipment, diesel, mechanical, or planttechnician
• Bringspractical skills inhydraulics, mechanical systems, and machineryrepair
• Isconfident reading service manuals, diagnostics, and technical drawings
• Issafety‑focused, solutions‑driven, and takes pride in quality workmanship
• Workswell in a team environment and takes ownership of tasks
• Relevanttrade qualifications, licences, or certifications(e.g. dieselmechanic, fitter, heavy vehicle) are highly regarded.
• Specificrequirements will be discussed during the recruitment process.
