Job summary

UNSW is seeking a practical and safety-focused Technical Officer to support teaching laboratories in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. You will help keep equipment safe and ready for use, assisting students with equipment and the setup of demonstrations.

Experience with mills, drills, lathes, and CNC machining is valuable. The role reports to the Laboratory Manager, with no direct reports, and requires strong fault-finding, organisational skills and collaboration with

Qualifications

Qualification with practical experience or equivalent knowledge.
Trade qualification in Engineering (Certificate III or IV) is highly desirable.
Proven ability to use CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
Strong safety training and compliance experience in labs.
Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholders.
Budget/purchasing and asset management experience.

Responsibilities

Provide hands-on support for classes, demonstrations and projects in teaching laboratories.
Maintain and repair laboratory equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
Assist in manufacture and assembly of apparatus and equipment for labs and research.
Support day-to-day lab operations and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
