Job summary

UNSW is seeking a Technical Officer (Workshop) for the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications in Sydney. The role supports the student workshop, manufactures and repairs equipment with both manual and power tools, and troubleshoots issues to keep labs running smoothly.

Qualifications

• Trade certificate in fitting and machining or equivalent.
• Experience with CNC milling/lathe, sheet metal working and welding.
• Ability to read technical drawings while using CAD/CAM software.
• Strong communication skills to advise clients on workshop facilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a broader technical team.

Responsibilities

• Support the student project workshop and maintain school laboratory equipment.
• Manufacture, modify and repair equipment using workshop machinery and tools.
• Troubleshoot problems to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
• Collaborate with the Senior Technical Officer and the wider technical team.
