Job summary

UNSW in Sydney is seeking a Technical Officer (Workshop) to support the student project workshop and to manufacture, modify and repair laboratory equipment using manual and power tools. The role requires attention to detail and problem-solving abilities, with close work with the Senior Technical Officer.

Level 5 and Level 6 progression with annual salary bands and 17% superannuation; on-site at Kensington, Sydney. Involves maintaining day-to-day operations and providing expert workshop support.

Qualifications

• A relevant trade certificate in fitting and machining or equivalent.
• Experience with CNC machines, sheet metal work, welding and fitting.
• Ability to read drawings; knowledge of SolidWorks and MasterCam (CAD/CAM).
• Strong communication to advise clients on workshop and lab facilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a wider technical team.

Responsibilities

• Support the student project workshop and maintain equipment.
• Manufacture, modify and repair laboratory equipment as needed.
• Troubleshoot issues and respond promptly.
• Collaborate with the Senior Technical Officer and broader technical team.
• Ensure day-to-day workshop operations run smoothly.
