Job summary

Qantas Group in Adelaide seeks a Senior Software Engineer (Back-End) to guide architecture, delivery and development of high-traffic backend systems powering our digital experiences. You will be a hands-on coder who ensures performance, reliability, and security while mentoring teammates.

The role requires 6+ years in software engineering, deep Java/Spring and Node.js experience, AWS cloud-native development, Docker/Kubernetes, and CI/CD practices.

As a Senior Software Engineer (Back-End), you’ll be responsible for guiding and leading the architecture, delivery and development of the software systems that power our business unit. A hands‑on, highly skilled software developer with the experience to dive into code to deliver high quality, well‑designed software. You will share responsibility for the quality of the software being built, including but not limited to; achieving desired business outcomes, meeting reliability and performance expectations and safely managing security and data privacy concerns.

You’llhave:

• 6+yearsin a hands-on Software Engineering role
• Strong experience building high‑traffic backend applications
• Working experience with back-end technologies (i.e Java, Spring / Spring Boot, Node JS) and databases (e.g PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, etc)
• Understanding of cloud‑native development on platforms such as AWS, including deployment, scaling, and operational considerations
• Containerisation technology concepts, such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitHub Actions), version control (Git), and automated testing practices
• Experience using observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Splunk, Datadog, or similar) to support production systems
• A real passion for quality, cleancodeand continuous improvement
• Strong understanding of architectural concepts and cloud-based solution design
• Highly dedicated ethos - expected to take very real accountability for the workyou'redoing
• A test and learn mindset with curiosity,collaborationand care
• Experience writing multi-threaded, asynchronous code
• Experience designing and building event-driven architectures, using tools such as Kafka, SNS/SQS, or EventBridge
• Demonstrable ability to motivate self and others, and a passion to mentor junior developers
