Qantas Airways is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Back-End) to lead architecture, delivery and development of robust, scalable backend systems from its new Product Innovation Centre in Adelaide. You will contribute to high‑traffic, cloud-native services with a focus on quality, security and performance.

As a Senior Software Engineer (Back-End), you’ll be responsible for guiding and leading the architecture, delivery and development of the software systems that power our business unit. A hands‑on, highly skilled software developer with the experience to dive into code to deliver high quality, well-designed software. You will share responsibility for the quality of the software being built, including but not limited to; achieving desired business outcomes, meeting reliability and performance expectations and safely managing security and data privacy concerns.

You’llhave:

• 6+yearsin a hands-on Software Engineering role
• Strong experience building high‑traffic backend applications
• Working experience with back-end technologies (i.e Java, Spring / Spring Boot, Node JS) and databases (e.g PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, etc)
• Understanding of cloud‑native development on platforms such as AWS, including deployment, scaling, and operational considerations
• Containerisation technology concepts, such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitHub Actions), version control (Git), and automated testing practices
• Experience using observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Splunk, Datadog, or similar) to support production systems
• A real passion for quality, cleancodeand continuous improvement
• Strong understanding of architectural concepts and cloud-based solution design
• Highly dedicated ethos - expected to take very real accountability for the workyou'redoing
• A test and learn mindset with curiosity,collaborationand care
• Experience writing multi-threaded, asynchronous code
• Experience designing and building event-driven architectures, using tools such as Kafka, SNS/SQS, or EventBridge
• Demonstrable ability to motivate self and others, and a passion to mentor junior developers
