Job summary

Qantas Airways is seeking a Senior Back-End Developer to guide architecture and delivery of scalable software at our new Product Innovation Centre in Adelaide. You’ll lead backend design, develop high-quality code, and own system reliability, security, and performance.

The role focuses on Java, Spring Boot, microservices, API development and cloud-native solutions, with exposure to Kafka, databases, and observability tools. A hands-on expert eager to improve every release.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in a hands-on Software Engineering role.
• Experience leading the architecture and design of backend systems using Java and related technologies.
• Proficiency in API development, Microservices, SOA, messaging, and databases.
• Proven technology experience with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS, Git, CI/CD, Kubernetes.
• Proficient in observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog and Splunk.
• CI/CD pipelines experience, preferably GitHub Actions.
• Strong focus on code quality, clean design and continuous improvement.

As aSenior Back-End Developer,you’llbe responsible forguiding and designing the architecture, delivery and development of the software systems that power our business unit.Ahands-on, highly skilled software developer with the experience todive into codeto deliver high quality, well-designed software.You willshareresponsibilityfor the quality of the software being built, including but not limitedto;achieving desired business outcomes, meeting reliability and performance expectations and safely managing security and data privacy concerns.

You’ll have:

• 6+yearsin a hands-on Software Engineering role
• Extensive experience leading the architecture and design of backend systems using Java and related technologies ensuring scalability, reliability and performance.
• Proficiency in API development, Microservices architecture, Service Oriented Architecture, Message Queueing, Event Driven Architecture, service mesh and databases
• Proventechnology experience with Java,Spring Boot, Kafka, MYSQL, PostgreSQL, AWS, Git,CI/CD, Kubernetes
• Proficient in observabilityand monitoring tools such as Datadog and Splunk
• Confidence with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitHub Actions
• A real passion for quality, cleancodeand continuous improvement
• A strong understanding of architectural concepts and cloud-based solution design
