Job summary

Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute – Darlinghurst NSW is seeking a detail-focused Senior/Payroll Officer to manage payroll end-to-end for a diverse workforce, with responsibilities across PAYG, superannuation and compliance.

This permanent part-time role (22.8–30.4 hrs/wk) reports to the Finance Manager, onsite in Darlinghurst, and offers an engaging, collaborative payroll environment with opportunities for process improvements and professional development.

Qualifications

• Certificate III/IV in Accounting or Payroll or related discipline
• Experience in payroll administration, finance administration or accounts support
• Strong knowledge of Australian payroll requirements (PAYG, superannuation, leave entitlements)
• Ability to meet strict deadlines with high accuracy
• Intermediate Excel, reports, reconciliations and data checks
• Ability to interpret employment documentation, policies and modern awards
• Discretion handling sensitive employee and salary information

Responsibilities

• End-to-end payroll processing for fortnightly, monthly and ad hoc runs
• Maintain accurate employee payroll records (salary, banking, taxation, superannuation)
• Manage leave balances and process various leave types
• Prepare payroll reports, variance checks, journals and reconciliations
• Support PAYG withholding, superannuation guarantee, STP and related obligations
• Respond to payroll enquiries promptly and confidentially
• Collaborate with Finance and People & Culture on onboarding, offboarding and cost allocation
