Job summary

BHP is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to lead open cut coal mine planning across Bowen Basin sites in Queensland. You will design and schedule safe, efficient dig-and-dump operations, coordinate with operations and planning teams, and drive improvements under a new 90-day activity framework.

Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Planning, you will mentor engineers, manage cross-functional interfaces, and contribute to long-term plans while ensuring operational excellence and safety

Qualifications

• Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• +5 years experience in open cut coal mine planning, dragline/truck & shovel design, scheduling and operations management.
• Proficiency in mining software such as Deswik, Vulcan, 3D Dig and SPRY.
• Demonstrate strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Operate in a fast-paced environment and lead a team of engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver safe, efficient, and productive execution plans (dig & dump) for operational teams.
• Work with the scheduling team to develop short and medium term mine plans and perform scheduling when needed.
• Partner with project managers to implement the 90-day rolling activity schedule.
• Collaborate with planning teams to develop pit execution strategies.
• Coach, develop, and support engineers across multiple mine planning disciplines.
