Job summary

Fortescue Research and Development is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead scope definition, detailed design, simulation and commissioning of mechanical systems for green hydrogen and green iron initiatives. Reporting to the Principal Engineer, you will guide technical input from concept to implementation.

Responsibilities include creating accurate 3D models, 2D drawings, selecting materials, and ensuring compliance with Australian standards and Fortescue safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years' experience in detailed mechanical engineering design.
• Chartered Professional Engineer status preferred (Engineers Australia).
• Proficiency in 3D design software and preparation of detailed engineering/fabrication drawings.
• Experience in finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations desirable.
• Experience designing mechanical components in the energy, infrastructure or resources sectors.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement mechanical systems for electrolysers and balance of plant across green hydrogen and green iron projects.
• Develop detailed design specifications, accurate 3D models and engineering drawings.
• Identify materials, components and suppliers ensuring cost, quality and availability.
• Perform engineering calculations, CFD and FEA simulations to validate designs.
• Collaborate with operations to integrate design intent into production processes.
