Job summary

Astrum Recruitment seeks a Mechanical Engineer / Project Engineer for a Defence construction project in Canberra. This role blends design, project and site work with hands-on depth to understand systems and drive on-site delivery.

You will progress from design to commissioning on major projects, using Revit/BIM, with 4+ years in HVAC/mechanical services and the ability to engage with subcontractors and consultants. Australian citizenship is essential and Defence clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent background.
• 4+ years' experience in HVAC or mechanical building services, ideally 4 to 8.
• Experience on major commercial construction projects, in a contractor or design and construct environment.
• A blend of design, project and site exposure, from Mechanical Engineer through to Project Engineer or Site Engineer.
• Working knowledge of Revit/BIM and mechanical services coordination.
• Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with subcontractors, builders and consultants.
• Defence or government project experience is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Delivering HVAC and mechanical services from design development through to commissioning and handover.
• Reviewing drawings and specifications, managing shop drawings, RFIs and design changes.
• Coordinating mechanical services with electrical, hydraulic, fire and structural trades, using Revit/BIM.

• Carrying out site inspections and QA/QC, and managing defects through to completion.

A leading mechanical services contractor is growing its Canberra team for a major Defence construction project. This isn't a role for someone who wants to sit behind Revit all day. You'll sit across design, project and site, with the technical depth to understand the systems and the practical drive to make things happen on the ground.
