Job summary

Design & Build Recruitment in Sydney is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to own HVAC design for commercial refurbishment projects. The role involves delivering detailed documentation, leading design efforts, and coordinating with project teams on-site to capture conditions and constraints.

You will identify design and buildability issues early, ensuring practical and compliant outcomes. The position offers exposure to technically complex sites and a clear pathway to ownership of

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in mechanical building services / HVAC design.
• NER registration with the ability to sign off and certify mechanical designs.
• Willingness to undertake site visits and engage directly with project teams to understand site conditions and identify potential issues.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver mechanical HVAC designs across commercial, retail, education, laboratory and refurbishment projects
• Develop detailed mechanical documentation, drawings, specifications and calculations
• Undertake regular site visits to assess existing conditions and understand project requirements
• Identify design, coordination and buildability issues early and develop practical solutions
• Work closely with project managers, clients, contractors and other consultants to ensure designs are delivered effectively

The Opportunity

An established specialist mechanical contractor is looking to add an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to their growing team.

The business specialises in dry concrete projects across technical refurbishments and upgrades, delivering mechanical HVAC solutions across shopping centres, commercial buildings, laboratories, schools, universities and other complex built environments.

This is a hands-on design role suited to a Mechanical Engineer who is confident taking ownership of HVAC design and enjoys getting out on site to understand projects properly. You'll have the opportunity to identify potential design, buildability and coordination issues early, working closely with project teams to deliver practical solutions.
