Job summary

Build On is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in NSW on full-time permanent basis, delivering mechanical scopes on large infrastructure and construction projects across NSW with project engineers and foremen.

You will review drawings, supervise on-site works including piping, HVAC, and fire protection, and ensure compliance with WHS/HSE standards while managing lookahead schedules and cost tracking.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical), with Honours preferred.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in mechanical engineering or site roles on infrastructure projects.
• Experience on large-scale infrastructure projects (metro, rail or major commercial works).
• Knowledge of mechanical services (fire protection, piping, HVAC, etc.).
• Experience supervising sites and coordinating subcontractors.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit).

Responsibilities

• Review construction drawings and specifications for mechanical services.
• Coordinate daily with foremen and subcontractors to meet programme targets.
• Supervise mechanical works on site including piping, HVAC, and fire protection.
• Inspect work, monitor progress and complete quality documentation.
• Prepare daily meeting notes, weekly reports and lookahead programmes.
• Identify issues and develop corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with WHS/HSE requirements.

About the role

We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team full-time and permanently, working on large infrastructure and construction projects across NSW. You'll work closely with Project Engineers, Senior Project Engineers, foremen and subcontractors to deliver mechanical scopes to project, quality and legislative standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications and method statements for mechanical services
• Coordinate and plan daily with foremen and subcontractors to meet programme targets
• Supervise mechanical works on site, including piping, HVAC, fire protection and plant equipment
• Inspect work and monitor progress and quality, and complete all quality documentation and site records
• Prepare daily meeting notes, weekly reports and 3-week lookahead programmes
• Prepare documents for procuring subcontractors and suppliers
• Track project costs and manage allocated work packages so they stay within budget
• Identify technical and site issues, and develop and carry out solutions
• Promote a strong safety culture and make sure works comply with WHS and HSE requirements

About you

• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical), with Honours preferred
• At least 2 years' experience in mechanical engineering, site engineering or technical site roles in construction or infrastructure
• Experience on large-scale infrastructure projects, such as metro, rail or major commercial work
• Practical knowledge of mechanical services, such as fire suppression and sprinkler systems, piping, HVAC, pressure vessels or heat exchangers
• Experience supervising sites and coordinating subcontractors and trades
• Skilled in 2D AutoCAD and 3D SolidWorks or Inventor; Revit experience is an advantage
• Good understanding of WHS/HSE, quality systems and Australian Standards
• Experience with project reporting, programme lookaheads, procurement documents and cost tracking
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Current WHS White Card and a valid Australian driver's licence (Class C)
