Job summary

BHP is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for Carrapateena, a large underground copper-gold operation in South Australia. The role leads a team of engineers to deliver geotechnical design, data interpretation and hazard management on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Adelaide.

Experience in sub-level or block caving is highly regarded, with responsibilities spanning GCMP, QAQC, databases and stakeholder collaboration to support growth projects and safe operations.

Qualifications

• Underground hard rock geotechnical engineering experience.
• Experience with sub-level or block caving is highly regarded.
• Ability to deliver safe geotechnical practices and lead a technical team.

Responsibilities

• Lead GCMP data collection, ground support design, rock mass monitoring and QAQC.
• Update geotechnical management plans (Ground Control, Seismic, Caving, QAQC).
• Analyze and interpret geotechnical data for input into mine design.
• Manage geotechnical databases.
• Mentor graduates, junior engineers and technicians.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on value-add projects.
• Communicate geotechnical hazards to stakeholders.
• Support growth projects for upcoming block cave (e.g., Hydrofrac, monitoring installation).
