Job summary

Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney is seeking experienced Senior Software Engineers to join ABC Digital Product and help build large-scale digital experiences used by Australians daily.

You’ll work on 3 senior frontend engineering opportunities across audience-facing products, web platforms and content distribution, using React, TypeScript, Next.js and Node.js to deliver performant, accessible applications and shape technical roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Experience building complex, scalable public-facing web applications.
• Significant React and TypeScript capability.
• Experience with Next.js or comparable modern web frameworks.
• Significant experience with a server-side language, preferably Node.js.
• Extensive automated testing across unit, integration and end-to-end testing.
• Strong CI/CD, automation pipelines, web releases and production monitoring.
• Solid understanding of WCAG accessibility, performance, security and SEO.
• Technical leadership and ability to mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable, secure and high-performing web applications built for complex digital environments.
• Build modern public-facing products using React, TypeScript, Next.js or similar frameworks.
• Design and develop reusable components and functionality across ABC digital products.
• Contribute to longer-term technical roadmaps, architecture, solution design and engineering strategy.
• Build quality into development through comprehensive unit, integration and end-to-end automated testing.
• Work across CI/CD, deployment automation, production monitoring and release processes.
• Drive improvements across web performance, security, SEO, accessibility and software quality.
• Identify, triage and resolve complex production issues, minimising time to resolution.
• Work alongside DevOps specialists on infrastructure design and implementation.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring across development teams.
