Job summary

Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney is seeking experienced Senior Software Engineers to join ABC Digital Product and help build large-scale digital experiences used by Australians daily.

You’ll work on 3 senior frontend engineering opportunities across audience-facing products, web platforms and content distribution, using React, TypeScript, Next.js and Node.js to deliver performant, accessible applications and shape technical roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Experience building complex, scalable public-facing web applications.
• Significant React and TypeScript capability.
• Experience with Next.js or comparable modern web frameworks.
• Significant experience with a server-side language, preferably Node.js.
• Extensive automated testing across unit, integration and end-to-end testing.
• Strong CI/CD, automation pipelines, web releases and production monitoring.
• Solid understanding of WCAG accessibility, performance, security and SEO.
• Technical leadership and ability to mentor engineers.

• Lead the design and development of scalable, secure and high-performing web applications built for complex digital environments.

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced Senior Software Engineers to join ABC Digital Product and help build and evolve large-scale digital experiences used by Australians every day.

We have 3x senior front end engineering opportunities, working across audience-facing digital products, web platforms and content distribution services.

You’ll work with modern technologies including React, TypeScript, Next.js and Node.js, developing highly performant, accessible and secure public-facing applications while contributing to technical roadmaps, architecture and engineering standards.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable, secure and high-performing web applications built for complex digital environments.
• Build modern public-facing products using React, TypeScript, Next.js or similar frameworks

About You

You’ll bring:

• Significant experience building complex, scalable and responsive public-facing web applications
• Highly advanced React and TypeScript capability
• Strong experience with Next.js or comparable modern web frameworks
• Significant experience with a server-side language, preferably Node.js
• Deep knowledge of modern development frameworks, tooling and software engineering practices
• Extensive experience with automated testing across unit, integration and end-to-end testing
• Strong experience with CI/CD, automation pipelines, web releases and production monitoring
• Strong understanding of WCAG accessibility, performance, security and SEO
• Experience desired but not essential: Designing, building, or supporting audience facing video and media delivery systems, with an understanding of challenges such as adaptive bitrate streaming, DRM, CDN strategy, live event reliability, player architecture, device fragmentation, accessibility, and platform-specific constraints.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and the ability to mentor and guide other engineers
• Strong stakeholder communication and experience coordinating complex multi-person delivery
• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent significant professional experience
