About this opportunity:

This is a senior administration and team support role, ideal for someone with strong coordination skills, supervisory experience and an interest in development, planning or local government processes.

As Senior Development Support Officer, you will guide and support Development Support Officers while working closely with the Team Leader Development Support. You will help ensure administrative processes are accurate, timely and compliant, while supporting a positive experience for customers, applicants and internal teams.

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate key administrative functions, including application lodgement, correspondence, records management, meeting support and reporting.
  • Provide clear, helpful and timely support to internal and external stakeholders, including developers, consultants, community organisations and government agencies.
  • Manage competing priorities, workflows and deadlines in a busy team environment.
  • Support consistent, accurate and professional administrative outcomes across the team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, support first-contact resolution and make effective use of Council systems.
  • Contribute to the review and improvement of procedures, workflows, guidelines and service delivery practices.
  • Support reporting, team planning, workload coordination and performance tracking.
  • Contribute to learning, capability development and practical support for team members.

This role would suit someone who enjoys leading by example, supporting a team, building positive working relationships and maintaining high standards across complex administrative processes.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

We are looking for someone who brings a strong mix of administration, coordination, communication and team support experience.

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A Certificate in Business Administration or a related field; or relevant experience, service and/or study that provides an equivalent level of capability.
  • A current Queensland "C" Class Driver's Licence or interstate equivalent. Interstate licences must be transferred to Queensland within three months of commencement.
  • Experience supervising, guiding or supporting staff, including training, coaching and capability development.
  • Well-developed administrative experience, ideally gained in local government, development, planning, engineering, surveying, building, plumbing, trade waste, backflow prevention, legal or another related environment.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Good time management and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise work, support team workflows and meet deadlines.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and corporate systems such as finance, customer request and document management systems.
  • Problem-solving skills, initiative and sound judgement when managing sensitive information, competing priorities and challenging situations.
  • Ability to contribute to process improvements, procedure reviews and a safe, supportive and customer-focused team culture.
  • Knowledge of administrative processes, customer service principles and statutory requirements relevant to development services or the ability to quickly build this knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Queensland's building and plumbing assessment regime, planning legislation, planning instruments and development assessment rules would be highly regarded.
