Job summary

Maddocks, a modern Australian law firm, is seeking a Senior Credit Controller to manage a large ledger, oversee collections, and resolve complex matters while collaborating with Partners.

You will onboard clients, enforce credit policies, maintain data in the firm’s systems, and work with billing and AR teams. This role requires resilience, sound judgement, and strong stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

• Experience managing complex or high-value debtor portfolios.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Professional, resilient approach to collections.
• Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Sound judgement and attention to detail.
• Good working knowledge of Excel.
• Experience using practice management systems (Aderant highly regarded).

Responsibilities

• Assessing and approving new credit requests, including credit checks and risk assessments.
• Onboarding new clients and maintaining existing client accounts.
• Implementing and adhering to internal credit policies and procedures.
• Ensuring client data is accurately maintained within the Firm’s systems.
• Providing guidance and support on credit matters to internal stakeholders.
• Managing a substantial debtor ledger, following up overdue invoices to maintain cash flow.
• Leading collections activity on complex or sensitive accounts.
• Communicating with clients in a professional, relationship-focused manner.
• Identifying and managing credit risk while minimising bad debt exposure.
• Working with billing and AR teams to resolve invoicing or billing queries.
• Preparing and reviewing aged debtor ledgers and outstanding balance reports.
• Escalating risks where appropriate.
• Providing insights to support cashflow management and decision-making.
• Building strong relationships with Partners, practice groups and external clients.
