Job summary

SSE is seeking an experienced Control Room Operations Manager to lead the Transmission Control Centre, ensuring safe, secure and efficient real-time operation around the clock. You will manage Control Engineers and specialists, shaping policies and governance for an increasingly complex transmission network.

Based in Perth with occasional travel to other locations, you will report to the Head of System Control and drive capability, incident response and strategic improvements across the control

Qualifications

• Significant experience in electricity network operations or power system operations, ideally in transmission or safety-critical environments.
• Strong technical knowledge of power system operation, system security, stability and operability.
• Proven experience leading and developing technical or operational teams, with high standards of competence and succession planning.
• Good understanding of operational risk, contingency planning, system restoration and incident management.
• Familiarity with Grid Code, STC and Transmission Licence obligations.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operation of the Transmission Control Centre with clear leadership and support for Control Engineers.
• Develop and lead the Control Engineer team, maintaining competence and safety leadership.
• Provide real-time operational leadership and determine operating strategies during normal, abnormal, and emergency conditions.
• Develop and maintain Control Room policies, contingency plans and governance in line with regulatory obligations.
• Collaborate with NESO, TOs, DNOs, generators and stakeholders to coordinate system operation.
• Provide leadership during major incidents and support incident restoration activities.
