Job summary

Western Power is seeking a Senior Applications Database Administrator to ensure peak performance, security, integrity and reliability of our database platforms. You will provide expert technical leadership across OT databases, driving best practices in configuration, maintenance and optimisation.

You will monitor, analyse and optimise critical environments, lead complex investigations, evaluate new technologies and mentor colleagues to uphold enterprise standards and scalable data architectures.

Qualifications

• Experience administering Oracle databases in enterprise environments.
• Strong ability to diagnose issues and tune performance for high-traffic systems.
• Experience with backup, recovery and disaster recovery planning.

Responsibilities

Join Western Power as a Senior Applications Database Administrator and play a critical role in keeping the systems that power our business running at their best.

Working within a fast-paced, high-throughput production environment, you will be responsible for ensuring the performance, security, integrity and reliability of our database platforms. As a trusted subject matter expert, you’ll provide technical leadership and guidance across the administration of Western Power’s Operational Technology databases, while driving best practice standards for database configuration, maintenance and optimisation.

In this role, you’ll help deliver reliable and high-quality services that meet customer expectations through the effective execution of ITIL processes, while staying at the forefront of emerging technologies and industry trends.

Your Role in Action

• Proactively monitor, analyse and optimise database environments, ensuring high levels of performance, availability, security and reliability across critical business systems.
• Lead complex performance investigations and capacity planning activities, identifying opportunities to improve scalability and ensure platforms can support future business growth.
• Research, evaluate and implement emerging database technologies and solutions, driving innovation while aligning with enterprise architecture standards and strategic objectives.
• Provide expert technical leadership in database design, development, optimisation and tuning, while mentoring colleagues and promoting best practice across project and operational teams.
• Design, maintain and continuously improve data models, database structures and data flows that support scalable, efficient and high-performing applications.
• Partner with infrastructure, application and architecture teams to develop capacity forecasts, utilisation strategies and long-term database roadmaps.
• Apply deep expertise across database platforms to strengthen resilience, improve operational efficiency and deliver continuous service improvements.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Demonstrated experience in Oracle Database Administration and support within complex, enterprise-scale environments, ideally supporting business-critical systems with an exposure to Oracle Golden Gate.
• Strong knowledge of database performance management, optimisation and tuning, with the ability to diagnose issues and improve system reliability and efficiency.
• Experience supporting backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
• Sound understanding of IT Service Management principles, including ITIL-aligned change, incident and problem management practices.
• A collaborative approach to technical leadership, with experience mentoring others, sharing knowledge and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
