Lead Planning Engineer – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD

Western Australia is undergoing one of the most significant energy transformations in its history. As large-scale renewables, electrification and major customer decarbonisation projects reshape the grid, critical decisions are being made about how the network evolves to support future generations.

We’re looking for a Lead Planning Engineer to provide technical leadership across complex planning initiatives that influence network development, investment decisions, and the long-term capability of Western Australia’s electricity system.

Working at the intersection of future network planning, major customer growth, and energy transition projects, you’ll help shape the decisions that determine how the network evolves over the coming decades.

Your Role in Action

This is a technical leadership role focused on solving complex planning challenges, influencing strategic network decisions, and developing engineering capability across the business.

You’ll provide specialist expertise across transmission planning activities while helping shape the standards, methodologies and frameworks that guide future network development.

• Lead complex network planning assessments and power system studies to support investment decisions, reliability outcomes and future network capability.
• Provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary planning teams, contributing to option development, scope definition and long-term network strategies.
• Evaluate planning solutions through detailed technical analysis, including risk assessments, steady-state, RMS and EMT studies.
• Support major grid transformation, decarbonisation and customer connection initiatives by providing expert planning advice and recommendations.
• Develop and enhance technical criteria, planning methodologies and engineering frameworks that support consistent and efficient network planning outcomes and decision making.
• Contribute to the development of engineering standards and technical specifications that influence internal and external engineering practices.
• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to solve complex network challenges.
• Mentor and develop planning engineers and graduates, building technical capability across the engineering function.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Eligible for CPEng/NPER registration, or progressing toward accreditation.
• Extensive experience in electricity network planning and power systems analysis.
• Experience undertaking power system studies, including load flow, fault level, voltage stability and network constraint analysis using PowerFactory.
• Demonstrated ability to develop practical, cost-effective network and non-network solutions.
• Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers and influencing complex stakeholder decisions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical analysis into clear recommendations.
