Job summary

The Department of Education Victoria – Gladstone Park VIC is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Officer to maintain and repair school facilities, grounds and equipment. You will conduct visual inspections, manage OH&S compliance and coordinate with contractors to ensure safe, well-maintained environments.

Based in Melbourne, this full-time 12-month contract involves out-of-hours service, liaising with the Business Manager and building teams, and delivering high-quality workmanship across buildings,

Qualifications

• Confidence using hand and power tools for maintenance.
• Strong time management and organisational skills.
• Ability to communicate with tradespeople, staff and students.
• Knowledge of OH&S regulations and practical application.
• Proactive, detail-oriented and able to work independently.
• Proficient with basic computer tasks including email and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buildings, fixtures and equipment daily.
• Conduct visual inspections of buildings and grounds for risk and repairs.
• Update asset registers and coordinate with contractors.
• Ensure OH&S compliance and carry out risk assessments.
• Manage cleaning, grounds and contractor liaison tasks.
• Support budgets and procurement with the Business Manager.
