Baywood is hiring Sawmill Operators to join a modern, high-tech sawmill in Australia. You will operate advanced sawmilling equipment installed 2026 and work with automated production systems in a safety-focused team environment.

The role suits mechanically minded individuals from manufacturing, engineering or timber processing backgrounds who are keen to develop in a technologically advanced setting. Training and ongoing development are offered as part of Baywood’s growth strategy.

Qualifications

• Experience operating industrial or civil equipment in manufacturing or timber processing.
• Ability to work with automated, computerised production systems.
• Strong focus on safety, quality and uptime.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor modern sawmilling equipment and production systems.
• Use computerised controls and production monitoring systems.
• Monitor timber flow and product quality.
• Identify faults and perform basic troubleshooting with Engineering support.
• Complete pre-start checks and report defects promptly.
• Contribute ideas to safety, quality and efficiency improvements.
• Maintain clean, safe, well-organised work area.

About the Role

As a Sawmill Operator, you'll play a key role in the safe and efficient operation of advanced sawmilling equipment and production systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Operating and monitoring modern sawmilling equipment (installed 2026)
• Using computerised controls and production monitoring systems
• Monitoring machine performance, timber flow and product quality
• Identifying faults, abnormalities and potential equipment issues
• Supporting basic troubleshooting and working closely with the Engineering team
• Completing pre-start checks and reporting equipment defects
• Responding quickly and safely to production interruptions
• Contributing ideas to improve safety, quality, uptime and efficiency
• Maintaining a clean, organised and safe work area
• Working as part of a reliable, safety-focused production team

About You

You will bring:

• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
• Experience operating industrial, manufacturing, or civil equipment
• Confidence working with technology and automated systems

• Reliability, accountability and a positive team attitude
• A willingness to learn and develop new skills
• Timber industry and/or automated manufacturing experience (desirable)
• A trade qualification in Engineering, Saw Doctoring, Wood Machining or a related mechanical field (highly desirable)
