Job summary

Hydraulic Distributors in Sydney, Australia, seeks a technically capable Sales Engineer to identify new business opportunities and support design, sale and delivery of product sales and engineering projects. This hands-on role blends customer discussions, technical problem solving, quoting, project coordination and site-based work.

You will work with customers to understand requirements, develop engineering solutions and manage awarded projects through to completion, including site visits,

Qualifications

• Minimum Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong mechanical and engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project costing.
• Ability to prepare quotations, technical proposals and project documentation.
• Strong customer communication and relationship management skills.
• Current driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Identify and pursue new product sales, new projects, customers and business opportunities across existing and prospective market sectors.
• Monitor relevant inquiries, projects, tenders and market activity to build and maintain a strong pipeline of potential work.
• Build and maintain relationships with engineers, project managers, contractors, procurement teams and other key decision-makers to support new opportunities, repeat business and long‑term customer development.
• Meet with customers to understand technical, operational and commercial requirements and identify potential project opportunities.
• Review customer specifications, drawings and existing systems to determine suitable repair, modification, upgrade, replacement or new‑build solutions.
• Develop engineering concepts, select equipment and contribute to system design based on the identified project requirements.
• Prepare or coordinate engineering drawings, specifications and supporting technical documentation.
• Produce project estimates, costings, quotations, and technical proposals.
• Manage awarded projects from planning through to completion, establishing deliverables, schedules, resources and project requirements.
• Coordinate engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, workshop, supplier, subcontractor and site activities throughout project delivery.
