Job summary

Haymes Paint in Newcastle is seeking a full-time Sales Assistant to provide expert paint advice to tradies and retail customers. You will tint and colour match, process store transactions, manage stock, and help with displays.

A driver’s license and Australian working rights are required, with a rotating Monday–Saturday roster. You’ll build relationships, assist customers with orders by phone and in person, and contribute to a premium customer experience in a supportive, Australian-owned

Qualifications

• Experience in customer service or retail environments.
• Ability to tint paint and colour-match to customer requirements.
• Physically capable of inventory tasks and lifting up to 15 kg.
• Strong numeracy and accuracy in processing transactions.
• Good communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

We are on the lookout for our next full-time Sales Assistant based at our Newcastle store.

You will be responsible for:

• Providing knowledgeable advice and product solutions to trade and retail customers
• Handling all paint related enquiries, including tinting paint products and colour matching to customer requirements
• Inventory control/stock replenishment (manual handling up to 15kg involved)
• Taking orders in-store and by phone
• Building strong relationships with new and repeat customers
• Assisting with visual displays and store presentation
• Making local deliveries

What you will bring to the role:

• Excellent communication and relationship building skills
• A genuine passion for delivering outstanding customer experiences
• Previous experience in customer service, retail, inventory management or merchandising (desirable)
• Confidence using technology (Experience with Point of Sales systems advantageous)
• Sound numeracy skills and attention to detail, including the ability to accurately process transactions and comprehend tint percentages/ratios
• The ability to follow processes, take initiative and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, customer-focused approach.
• Trade experience is highly regarded

Requirements:

• Current valid driver’s license
• Australian Working Rights

This position works a rotating roster across our 6-day a week trade (Monday - Saturday).
