The Role

We're looking for an experienced Safety Management Engineer to support Air Force capability across strategic and deployed operations in Canberra. This is a great opportunity for a senior safety engineer to manage key engineering processes supporting day-to-day RAAF warfighter systems, exercising real technical authority within a Capability Life Cycle environment. You'll bring deep safety engineering expertise, coordinating and directing system safety activities, conducting hazard analyses, and providing guidance on safety engineering techniques and software assurance across the acquisition and sustainment lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver system safety engineering services, regulatory compliance and resource management
  • Coordinate, direct and evaluate system safety activities in a Capability Life Cycle (CLC) environment
  • Conduct capability and concept development within the context of the system safety program
  • Conduct system safety analysis, development and Verification and Validation (V&V)
  • Provide advice and guidance on system safety engineering analysis techniques, processes and software assurance
  • Evaluate technical and design packages, including scoping, planning and reviewing, implementing actions from a safety perspective
  • Conduct reviews of contract deliverables
  • Exercise assigned Technical Authority delegations
  • Follow CASG and SPO strategic safety direction
Required
  • Current NV1 security clearance
  • Engineers Australia Professional Engineering Stage 2 competencies, including a four-year engineering degree (AQF Level 7) recognised under the Washington Accord
  • Recognition as a Chartered Professional Engineer or equivalent
  • Tertiary qualifications or relevant industry/domain experience in developing safety management plans
  • Practical experience coordinating, directing and evaluating system safety activities in an acquisition and sustainment environment
  • Experience with contemporary safety standards used in the Defence environment
  • Ability to produce systems safety specifications, plans, procedures, hazard analyses and certification documentation
Salary

$151,740 - $156,740 (incl. Super), pro rata for the duration of this engagement
