  • Develop safety specifications, plans, procedures and reports.

Indicative Service / Tasks:

  • Plan and deliver system safety engineering services, regulatory compliance, resource management, and project outcomes
  • Conduct co-ordination, direction, and evaluation of system safety activities in a CLC environment;
  • Conduct capability and concept development
  • Conduct system safety analysis, development, V&V;
  • Provide advice and guidance on system safety engineering analysis techniques, processes, and software assurance necessary for design and implementation; and
  • Conduct reviews of contract deliverables.
  • Systems safety specifications, plans, procedures, and reports.

Indicative Standards:

  • Services are to be provided by personnel holding tertiary qualifications or relevant industry and/or domain work experience, practical experience in the development of safety management plans, and ability to coordinate, direct and evaluate system safety activities in an acquisition and sustainment environment.
  • Safety management plans incorporate good practice safety engineering and safety management principles applicable in acquisition and sustainment environment.
  • Services indicate experience in contemporary safety standards used in the Defence environment.
  • Services are to be provided commensurate with relevant Australian and International Standards, regulations, and Defence requirements.
  • Service providers are to employ industry good practice when undertaking the Services.

Also:

  • Evaluate technical and design packages including scoping, planning, and reviewing and implement actions from a safety perspective.
  • Follow CASG and SPO strategic safety direction.
  • Accountable for exercising assigned Technical Authority delegations.

Qualifications:

  • Engineers Australia Professional Engineering Stage 2 competencies, that is
  • A four-year engineering degree (Australian Qualification Framework level 7) in a relevant engineering discipline that is recognised under the Washington Accord,
  • Recognition as a Chartered Professional Engineer or equivalent; and
  • A minimum one-year experience within a materiel system safety program.

SFIA Skills Sought:

The application of appropriate methods to assure safety during all lifecycle phases of safety-related systems developments, including maintenance and re-use. These include safety hazard and risk analysis, safety requirements specification, safety-related system architectural design, formal method design, safety validation and verification, and safety case preparation.

Contributes to the identification, analysis and documentation of hazards, and to the capture, evaluation and specification of safety requirements. Analyses and documents safety validation results. Contributes to the development and maintenance of project safety assurance plans, and gathers safety assurance evidence for safety case preparation.
