Restaurant Host | Tenjo - A New Opening by The Apollo Group

Tenjo is opening this November at the top of The Eve in Redfern, and we’re looking for a full-time Host to help set the tone from when guests arrive.

A 100-seat rooftop izakaya, Tenjo brings classic Japanese cooking together with the energy and ease of a Sydney rooftop bar. Led by Head Chef Freddy Lim, the menu will move from sushi and sashimi to tempura, yakitori and donabe claypot rice, all grounded in Japanese technique and exceptional Australian produce.

With a retractable glass roof, an open terrace and a dining room that shifts from sunlit lunches to long dinners, Tenjo is designed for guests to experience in different ways. Your role will be to make every one of those experiences feel considered from the very beginning.

The role

As our Host, you’ll be the first person our guests meet and often the last person they see. You’ll bring warmth, confidence and a calm head to the door, making sure the restaurant feels welcoming even when service is in full swing. You’ll work closely with the restaurant management and reservations teams to manage bookings, walk-ins and table flow throughout each service.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Welcoming guests and setting the tone for their experience
• Managing reservations, walk-ins, waitlists and seating plans
• Keeping communication clear between the door, floor and management teams
• Learning our regular guests and making every visit feel personal
• Responding to guest enquiries with warmth and attention
• Helping the restaurant move smoothly through busy services
• Representing Tenjo with confidence, care and genuine hospitality

About you

You’ll understand that great hosting is much more than checking a name off a list. You notice what’s happening in the room, remember the details and know how to make people feel looked after without making a fuss about it.

Previous experience as a Host in a busy restaurant or premium hospitality environment would be ideal. You’ll also need to be organised, comfortable using reservation systems and confident communicating with all kinds of people.

Most importantly, you’re warm, composed and genuinely enjoy being around guests. You’ll be available to work a full-time roster that includes evenings and weekends.
