Job summary

Megaport is hiring a mid-level Backend Engineer to own features on systems that customers rely on daily. You’ll contribute to core APIs and services behind the Megaport platform, working in a JVM stack with Java and Kotlin. The role reports to Engineering Manager and involves modern tooling and a path to Kotlin expertise.

You’ll join a collaborative team in a Brisbane-based environment with flexible remote options across Australia, and opportunities to mentor and grow within the backend group.

Qualifications

• A few years building backend services in Java or Kotlin.
• Comfortable working with Spring and JVM stack.
• Relational databases with data modeling experience.
• Clear communication and ability to explain technical trade-offs.
• Take ownership of problems and drive them to resolution.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Willingness to learn Kotlin and expand tooling as needed.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and ship backend services and APIs, from a problem to production-ready code.
• Work in a modern JVM stack including Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, Postgres, RabbitMQ and Redis.
• Ship to a Kubernetes and AWS platform with GitHub Actions.
• Turn business requirements into technical solutions and speak up when needed.
• Collaborate with engineers, product and stakeholders to ensure reliable, secure and fast systems.
• Write tests and participate in code reviews; help improve architecture and reduce technical debt.
