Megaport is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to own core backend services that power the Megaport platform. You will work on APIs and services using Java and Kotlin with Spring Boot, deployed on Kubernetes and AWS.

You'll join a collaborative team, mentor through a dedicated program, and help improve architecture while shipping high-quality software. The role offers flexible remote work across Australia with some office days in Brisbane.

Qualifications

• A few years building backend services in Java or Kotlin.
• Experience with Spring and understanding of its core concepts.
• Relational databases modeling and querying.
• Strong communication and ability to explain trade-offs clearly.
• Ownership mindset and the ability to drive problems to completion.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship backend services and APIs from problem to production-ready code.
• Work in a modern JVM stack including Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, Postgres, RabbitMQ, and Redis.
• Ship to a Kubernetes and AWS platform with GitHub Actions handling CI/CD.
• Turn business requirements into technical solutions and question assumptions when needed.
• Collaborate with engineers, product, and stakeholders to keep systems reliable and secure.
• Write tests (JUnit, Kotest) and participate in code reviews.
• Help improve architecture, patterns, and process while managing technical debt.
