Job summary

Engineering Trades Australia seeks an experienced Project Engineer (Mechanical/Structural) for refurbishment, upgrade and recommissioning of a gold processing plant in Western Australia. You will report to the Project Manager and lead mechanical/structural works on-site, coordinating fabrication, installation, testing and handover activities.

The role requires 5+ years on-site in mining or heavy industry, a degree in Mechanical or Structural engineering, and strong communication with

Qualifications

• 5+ years of on-site experience in mining or heavy industry.
• Engineering degree in Mechanical or Structural disciplines.
• Proven experience delivering mining/mineral processing or heavy industrial projects.
• Experience with brownfield refurbishment, shutdowns, or plant upgrades.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Valid Australian driver’s licence and working rights.
• Current National Police Clearance.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical.

Responsibilities

• Manage delivery of mechanical and structural works to safety, quality, cost and schedule targets.
• Plan and coordinate engineering and construction activities.
• Develop and maintain project schedules and short-term work plans.
• Prepare scopes of work, technical documentation and deliverables.
• Coordinate fabrication, site installation, testing and commissioning.
• Implement QA systems, ITPs, NCRs, and project handover documentation.
• Monitor progress and resolve technical issues.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and client requirements.

Job description

We are seeking experienced Project Engineers with Mechanical and Structural disciplines to join our team for the refurbishment, upgrade, and recommissioning of a gold processing plant.

Location: Lake Johnston Project, Western Australia

Roster: 8 Days On / 6 Days Off (DIDO in pool car, travel will be paid)

**Meals and accommodation are provided while on site

Employment Type: Contract

This project involves the complete refurbishment of an existing mineral processing facility, including restoring major plant and infrastructure to operational condition while delivering strategic upgrades to increase plant capacity and improve long-term reliability.

About the Project

The scope includes the refurbishment, repair, replacement and upgrade of:

• Structural steel and steelwork modifications
• Mechanical piping systems
• Platework, chutes, bins, hoppers, and tanks
• Conveyors, idlers, pulleys, and transfer stations
• Ball mills and associated equipment
• Thickener, motors, drives, pumps, and rotating equipment
• Process plant equipment and infrastructure

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of mechanical and structural works throughout the project lifecycle, including:

• Managing project delivery to achieve safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
• Planning and coordinating engineering and construction activities.
• Developing and maintaining project schedules and short-term work plans.
• Preparing scopes of work, technical documentation, and engineering deliverables.
• Coordinating fabrication, site installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Implementing and maintaining Quality Assurance (QA) systems, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality inspections, NCR management, quality records, and project handover documentation.
• Monitoring progress and resolving technical issues.
• Identifying project risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
• Ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, engineering, and client requirements.

About You

You will have:

• 5+ years of on-site experience
• Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Structural disciplines)
• Proven experience delivering mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial projects.
• Strong experience in brownfield refurbishment, shutdowns, plant upgrades, or capital projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence and full Australian working rights.
• Current National Police Clearance
• Ability to pass a Pre Employment Medical
