Job summary

Seeley International in Australia is seeking a procurement professional to manage direct materials for production. You will release POs, schedule deliveries, organise freight and expedite production changes. You will maintain ERP data, run RFQ processes and drive spend optimisation while preserving supply quality.

You’ll collaborate with Planning, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Finance and Sales to keep production lines supplied on time and cost effectively.

Qualifications

• Strong background in purchasing, logistics or inventory management.
• Understanding of manufacturing operations, systems and procedures.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent negotiation and supplier relationship skills.
• Ability to read technical drawings.

About the Role

Reporting to the Production Buying Manager, you will manage the procurement of direct materials for production across an assigned supplier portfolio from purchase order release and expediting through to supplier quality, cost reduction and inventory optimisation.

It's a fast-paced, hands-on role at the centre of our supply chain. You will work closely with Planning, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Finance and Sales, and directly with suppliers and logistics agents, to keep our production lines supplied with the right materials, at the right cost, on time.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage relationships and maintain records for all suppliers assigned to the role.
• Release purchase orders and delivery schedules on time, secure PO acknowledgements and ensure timely dispatch of goods.
• Organise freight requirements and liaise with logistics agents.
• Expedite in response to ERP exception messages and production schedule changes, advising Production Planning of any shortages.
• Maintain accurate ERP records, including item master, item cost and price tables, blanket orders and work orders for sub-contract items, and process engineering changes.
• Run RFQ processes supplier identification, qualification, quotation evaluation and selection – and leverage existing or alternative suppliers to lower overall spend without compromising quality or supply.
• Support inventory optimisation by identifying slow-moving and obsolete items, maintaining safety stock, MOQ, EOQ and batch sizes, and reconciling consignment stock.
• Manage supplier quality issues, including non-conformance reports, requests for credit and engineering deviations.
• Measure supplier performance, report on results and make recommendations to management.
• Investigate and resolve supplier invoice queries with Finance.

About You

You are organised, commercially minded and decisive, and you're comfortable managing competing priorities in a busy manufacturing environment.

You'll also bring:

• A strong background in purchasing, logistics or inventory management, gained through experience and/or qualifications.
• A sound understanding of manufacturing operations, systems and procedures.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and the Microsoft Office suite.
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build solid working relationships with suppliers, freight companies and internal stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A creative approach to problem solving and the ability to perform under tight deadlines.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment (highly regarded).
• A tertiary qualification in Purchasing, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
• APICS/ASCM certification (e.g. CPIM or CSCP).
• The ability to read technical drawings.
